Yesterday I covered a boon of plenary indulgences for the poor souls in Purgatory. Today I want to give y’all a super easy PARTIAL indulgence for the souls in Purgatory. This one is so easy that we should all be trying to do it every day! And, while it only partially remits the temporal punishment of a soul in Purgatory, it is still something. Right!?
FYI – the general indulgence “rules” still apply.
46 Prayer for the Dead (Requiem aeternam)
cf. Roman Ritual, The Order of Christian Funerals
A partial indulgence, applicable only to the souls in purgatory is granted to the faithful who recite the prayer for the dead.
English: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
If you would like to take a gander at saying it in Latin, well here you go:
Latin: Réquiem ætérnam dona eis Dómine; et lux perpétua lúceat eis. Requiéscant in pace. Amen.
Réquiem ætérnam dona eis Dómine;
Rr-eh-qwee-em ay-TER-nam doh-na ey-ees DOH-mee-neh;
et lux perpétua lúceat eis.
et loo-ks per-PE-too-ah LOO-chay-at ey-ees.
Requiéscat in pace. Amen.
Reh-qwee-EHS-kat een pah-cheh. Ahh-men.
Sancta Dei Genetrix, ora pro nobis!
