Day 201 – Mrs. Flusche’s Super Basic Primer on the Rosary (Part II)

Saturday, October 3, 2020 –

Today we are going to cover the mysteries of the Rosary. No, we are not going to go in-depth into each mystery. We have a whole month for that, and each mystery will get its own day. Rather, today is a basic listing of the mysteries.

Personally, I like to teach them in chronological order with a helpful little summation of each set (see below). Keep in mind that these sets of mysteries in NO way covers everything that Christ did because Christ is God and is outside of time and space. However, these are the “big ones” that we Catholics like to meditate on.

THE JOYFUL MYSTERIES – “The Early Years”

  1. The Annunciation – The Angel Gabriel tells Mary she is pregnant with Christ
  2. The Visitation – Mary goes to visit her cousin Elizabeth
  3. The Birth of Our Lord/The Nativity – Yup, it’s Christmas!
  4. The Presentation of Our Lord – Mary and Joseph take baby Jesus to Simeon in the temple
  5. The Finding of Our Lord in the Temple – Ekk! That time Mary and Joseph lost the 12 year old Christ

THE LUMINOUS MYSTERIES – “The Doing Years”

  1. The Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan – John the Baptist baptizes Christ in the Jordan, thus giving us the Sacrament of Baptism
  2. The Wedding at Cana – Christ turns a lot of water into wine
  3. The Proclamation of the Kingdom – the Sermon on the Mount
  4. The Transfiguration – Christ becomes radiant with glory on Mt. Tabor
  5. The Institution of the Eucharist – Holy Thursday; Christ gives us the Eucharist (and the Priesthood)

THE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES – “Good Friday / The Dying Day”

  1. The Agony in the Garden – Christ suffers in the garden at Gethsemane
  2. The Scourging at the Pillar – Pontius Pilate has Christ whipped
  3. The Crowning with Thorns – a crown of thorns is placed upon Christ’s head
  4. The Carrying of the Cross – Christ suffers and carries His Cross to Golgotha
  5. The Crucifixion and Death of Our Lord – Christ is put to death for our sins on the Cross

THE GLORIOUS MYSTERIES – “Easter Sunday and Beyond”

  1. The Resurrection – Easter: on the third day, Christ rose from the dead
  2. The Ascension – Christ goes up to heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father
  3. The Descent/Coming of the Holy Spirit – Christ sends the Holy Ghost to look after His Church
  4. The Assumption of our Blessed Mother into Heaven – Mary does not suffer the stain of death, but is taken directly to heaven at the end of her earthly life
  5. The Coronation of our Blessed Mother – Christ crowns His mother as Queen of Heaven and Earth
