Have you ever watched the 1974 comedy, “Young Frankenstein”? One of my favorite scenes is the rotating bookcase where Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) and Inga (Teri Garr) are trying to find the distant music and get stuck in a rotating bookcase.
You can watch the scene HERE or below.
For whatever reason, this scene struck me today. I kind of feel like the characters: stuck in a comically rotating bookcase, unable to control how it works or how fast it spins, and trying to get to something just out of reach.
I’m probably (definitely) vastly overreaching in tying this ridiculous scene to my own life, but it works for me at the present moment, so I’ll roll with it.
Life feels out of control right now for most of us. Well meaning people are trying to help, but I find myself wanting to shout, “Put…the…candle…BACK!”
I do not want to discount their help. I appreciate that people are trying. However, sometimes it makes things worse. Sometimes I get stuck in the rotating bookcase, so to speak, distracted from my goal with my face smashed in between a wall and a shelf.
Oh well, tomorrow is a new day and a new candle.
Saint Ambrose, pray for us!
