Day 18 – The Last Friday in Lent: a Pep Talk to Myself

Friday, April 3, 2020 –

“The forty days of Lent run from Ash Wednesday up to but excluding the Mass of the Lord’s Supper exclusive.” (Universal Norms on the Liturgical Year and the Calendar, Title II, III.28)

It is hard to believe that Lent is still going AND that this is the last Friday in Lent. It really feels like this Lent has lasted somewhere between two days and 20 years long.

While we all gave up more than we bargained for, the experience has been edifying. It has been purifying and good for us.

Compared to the Lents of older times, we still have it terribly easy. That is not to discount our experiences or feelings during this time. Yes, it has been difficult, but we **can** do more. Humans are quite resilient, and this time of purification is just what our Divine Physician ordered for us!

So, gird your loins for Holy Week! Pray fervently. Keep pushing forward. Get ready for your Good Friday fast. We can do this!

Saint John the Baptist, pray for us!
