July brings us the devotion to the Most Precious Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ. And, just like June, I have made a handy-dandy handout chock-full of history, information, and prayer. Woot!
You can download it HERE.
In the meantime, here is a preview of what is inside…
During July, and especially on the Feast of the Most Precious Blood (July 1st, old calendar), we honor and adore Christ’s sacrifice and how He spilled His Blood for the salvation of all mankind. We recognize seven instances of Christ shedding His Blood:
- His Circumcision
- The Agony in the Garden
- The Scourging at the Pillar
- The Crowning with Thorns
- The Way of the Cross
- The Crucifixion
- The Piercing of His Heart
Officially, the Feast of the Most Precious Blood (July 1) came about when Pope Pius IX went into exile (1849) during the First Italian War for Independence. Unfortunately, the feast was removed from the General Roman Calendar in 1969, “because the Most Precious Blood of Christ the Redeemer is already venerated in the solemnities of the Passion, of Corpus Christi, of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and in the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. But the Mass of the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ is placed among the votive Masses.” (Calendarium Romanum, Libreria Editrice Vaticana 1969, p. 128)
Blood of Christ, only-begotten Son of the Eternal Father, save us!
