Day 93 – Garden is Complete! (for now)

Wednesday, June 17, 2020 –

I am running out of excuses to not move on to the next round of Mrs. Flusche’s Super Easy Primers About Catholic Stuff. However, I am going to dawdle at least one more day because the orchard actually came! For realz…with a Z!

It appears that all six trees are still nominally viable, though I question how long the pear and yellow apple will last, and a couple of the others seem to have tried to come out of dormancy while they were in the dry bags. Yikes! Of course, all of them were dry as a bone. I guess being planted two months later after a month of touring the United States on the back of a truck will do that to you.

Anyhow, I soaked them overnight in buckets of water and hurriedly planted them in my jammies this morning before the storms hit. For at least this season they will be recuperating from their long journey in 10-gallon cloth buckets chock-full of garden soil and black cow. It will also give me a chance to prune them correctly and work on growing stronger roots before transplanting.

Eventually, we want to plant them along the driveway near our lavender bed, which is a bumblebee haven. That will have to wait until we figure out if and when we might be doing my kitchen remodel and backyard re-vamp because that also happens to be the side of the house that any truck will need to traipse if they are bringing kitchen remodel or backyard re-vamp supplies. So, for now, temporary buckets will have to suffice. Ehh…it all makes sense in my head.

For now, it appears that the garden is finally complete (pictures below). Oh wait! Mr. Flusche just informed me that he wants to add a couple of lime trees for me to cultivate so he can have endless mojitos. All right, so the garden apparently will never be complete.

Saint Fiacre, pray for us!
