Colonel Spotsgnome’s Field Journal:
Only open for about a month out of the year is the Fall Festival at Belvedere Plantation. Here you will be able to do so much that you will need to come back! My host family broke down and bought one of their highly-prized BOGO season passes this year. I’ll be honest, in all the years we’ve gone to Belvedere, we’ve never managed to see all of it. It really is THAT BIG!
Every year there seem to be more and more amazing attractions added and fun booths for you to stop and do crafts or games. Our first visit this year we met up with some friends for a bonfire at the “back 40 lot” for dinner before heading off into the Snoopy themed corn maze.
This is really a great hometown throwback. The price is a little steep, and some of the extra things to do are “add on” costs. You can ask at the information booth or go online for a list of what is or is not included in your admission ticket. You can also find good deals on Groupon or other coupon websites, sometimes even directly through Belvedere’s website or Facebook, that will get you BOGO tickets and/or “tokens” for use at the different booths.
This is definitely not your big state fair type of place. It is a family farm, and a working farm at that! You’re stepping back in time to small town America, and it is seriously kitchy-fun!
If you love the nostalgia of small-town carnivals, corn mazes, pedal carts, petting zoos, hay rides, and crafts—you MUST come out! There is something for everyone. From toddler to grandparent there is fun, food, and more. It is like walking back to simpler times. I only wish October lasted all year! Unfortunately, Belvedere Plantation closes their Fall Festival on Saturday, November 5. Hurry! Buy your tickets online or at the gate. Don’t miss this amazing Spotsylvania experience. And yes, the corn maze changes every year!
How to get there: From 95 and Cosner’s Corner, take HWY 17East, out past Rt. 2. You’ll see signs, and you can’t miss their big hay creatures on the left hand side!
